Few challenges in the cosmos feel quite as daunting as the one splashed across this February 1988 cover by Ron Frenz and Brett Breeding: Thor, golden-armored and winged-helmeted, braces himself against a massive Celestial whose enormous red fists dominate the starfield, while a fleet of spacecraft streaks upward in the background. The tagline says it all — "Alone Against the Celestials!" — promising a confrontation that pits the God of Thunder against beings of near-incomprehensible scale and power. Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz were delivering some of their most ambitious work on this title in 1988, and this issue looks every bit the part.
