Who is Arishem the Judge?

Arishem the Judge is one of the Celestials, an immensely powerful race of cosmic beings in the Marvel Universe. He serves as the Celestials' arbiter, leading their periodic judgment of worlds to determine whether a planet's evolutionary experiments have merit and whether its civilization deserves to survive.

Few cosmic entities command the sheer weight of judgment that Arishem the Judge carries into every panel — a Marvel titan who made their entrance in Thor #388 in 1988, courtesy of Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, arriving fully formed at the dawn of the Copper Age. Over a span of more than two decades, Arishem has turned up across titles as varied as X-Factor, Earth X, and Eternals Annual, keeping rarefied company alongside fellow cosmic presences like Ziran the Tester and Gammenon the Gatherer, as well as marquee mutants like Cyclops and Bobby Drake. With nine catalog appearances and at least one collector-recognized key issue to their name, Arishem is the kind of rare, universe-scale figure whose every showing feels like an event — a character whose relative scarcity only deepens the sense that when Arishem arrives, the stakes are nothing less than cosmic.
