The Walking Dead #9

The ninth issue of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's survival series arrives with a cover by Tony Moore that's as unsettling as anything in the zombie genre — the entire scene is framed through the massive, compound eye of a blowfly, its red-eyed form resting in the bloody foreground while a lone figure, back turned and armed with what appears to be a shovel, gazes into a hazy blue woodland beyond. That juxtaposition of the mundane and the grotesque — death's patient scavenger watching a survivor press forward — perfectly captures the tone Kirkman and his collaborators had built by mid-2004.
