The Walking Dead #130
Two survivors huddle together in the pouring rain at the base of a muddy embankment, while a horde of walkers looms silhouetted along the ridge above them — it's a striking image of desperate vulnerability that perfectly captures the series' knack for quiet dread. Titled "There Were Whispers and I Was Afraid," this 2014 installment from Kirkman, Adlard, Gaudiano, and Rathburn promises the kind of tense, atmosphere-soaked storytelling that has kept The Walking Dead compelling well into its run. Charlie Adlard's rain-drenched cover art does a lot of heavy lifting here, the contrast between the exposed figures below and the shuffling mass above feeling genuinely unsettling.
