The Walking Dead #13

This 2004 Image Comics entry in Robert Kirkman's survival series presents a tense, atmospheric cover by Tony Moore — two wary, wide-eyed survivors stand pressed against a chain-link fence, caught in a harsh beam of light, while dark silhouetted figures loom in the foreground, closing in from both sides. The composition is quietly unnerving, using shadow and cramped space to convey exactly the kind of desperate, no-good situation that keeps readers turning pages. With Charlie Adlard and Cliff Rathburn handling interior art and tones, issue #13 is a solid chapter in one of the most compelling survival stories comics has to offer.
