Written by Chris Claremont with interior art by Tom Raney and coloring by Brian Haberlin, the issue was edited by Pete Franco and Mark Powers under Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada, and carried a cover date of July 2000 (released May 10, 2000). It arrived just one issue into Claremont's second tenure on the title — a return he described as 'an offer I couldn't refuse' — and sat squarely inside the storytelling framework of the 'six-month gap,' a device Claremont used to jump the status quo forward rather than re-establish it slowly, a choice that drew pointed criticism from incoming EIC Quesada, who found the books inaccessible to new readers.
