Part three of Marvel's five-part "Matrix Quest" arc, this 1990 issue puts Longtooth front and center in a tense maritime scene — a savage, spear-wielding beast looms over the deck of a ship while a transformed Autobot craft crashes through churning waves below. Inset portraits of two fellow Autobots and the cover's urgent taglines — "to save Longtooth from himself… his fellow Autobots may just have to kill him!" — set up a story built on dangerous obsession and impossible loyalty. Cover pencils by José Delbo give the whole composition a kinetic, waterlogged energy that fits perfectly into this pivotal stretch of the saga.
