The Stand: American Nightmares #5
The concluding chapter of Marvel's American Nightmares arc arrives with a cover by Lee Bermejo that grips you immediately — a pale, agonized figure fills the frame, head thrown back in a raw, open-mouthed scream, hands clutching the back of his skull, while a brooding rocky outcrop with a crouching silhouette and an ominous cornfield framing a darkened farmhouse loom behind him. It's a striking image that captures the dread and unraveling at the heart of Stephen King's apocalyptic world, rendered in Bermejo's moody, painterly style. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Mike Perkins bring this five-issue chapter to a close, and if this cover is any measure, the tension has nowhere left to go but over the edge.
