The Spirit #21
This anthology issue contains three complete Spirit stories. "The Grumly Murder," by Will Eisner, explores a man's breaking point when psychological tension causes him to question reality; a character named Grumly's body disappears after he is killed, and the Spirit investigates the mystery of his inheritance. "Flatfoot Burns" features a comedic race between Flatfoot Burns and Discus as they compete in a series of hurdles and challenges. A third story involving the Dolan household deals with romantic entanglements and family drama, including references to wedding plans and concerns about a character's intentions toward a young woman.
The Spirit's peaceful picnic with Ellen takes a chaotic turn when he spots Glut Mutton's gang attempting a heist, forcing him to abandon his romantic plans to stop the crooks. But Glut has his own scheme brewing—one that could trap the Spirit in a life far more complicated than any criminal he's faced. This 1986 adventure blends romance, mayhem, and humor as the Spirit discovers that sometimes the real danger isn't a bullet, but a wedding ring.
