“The Equations of Light and Darkness”

In "The Equations of Light and Darkness," the Spectre confronts Darkseid on Apokolips with devastating consequences—temporarily destroying him, only to see the tyrant reconstituted by a force beyond comprehension. Written by John Ostrander and illustrated by Norm Breyfogle, with inks by Dennis Janke and colors by Guy Major, this pivotal issue takes the Spectre on a journey to the Source, revealing a deeper cosmic truth. The story concludes with a haunting revelation as part of the Spectre becomes bound to the Promethean Wall, while P. Craig Russell’s striking cover captures the weight of that transformation.

The Spectre temporarily destroys Darkseid while rescuing a girl on Apokolips, but Darkseid is reconstituted by another power (perhaps The Source). The Spectre then learns why the universe needs Darkseid, during a visit to the Source, after which a part of The Spectre remains in The Promethean Wall.
