The Spectacular Spider-Men #4
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe Spectacular Spider-Men #4 is the narrative turning point of the series' debut arc, 'Arachnobatics,' marking the moment Peter Parker and Miles Morales break free from the Arcadium — a psychic-fantasy prison designed by Arcade and Mentallo and bankrolled by Hammerhead — with pivotal help from Miles's clone-brother Shift. The issue deepens what had been the most sustained examination of both Spider-Men's inner lives in years, using the lotus-eater scenario to probe Peter's unresolved grief over Gwen Stacy and Miles's complicated romantic feelings for Kamala Khan. As the fourth chapter of the first-ever ongoing Peter Parker/Miles Morales team-up series, it stands as a milestone in the long publishing history of Marvel pairing its two most prominent Spider-Men as equals rather than mentor and protégé.

The series was launched in March 2024 as a direct outgrowth of the post-'Gang War' Spider-Man publishing line, with writer Greg Weisman — the showrunner behind the beloved 2008–2009 animated Spectacular Spider-Man series — returning to the character in ongoing comics form alongside artist Humberto Ramos, himself a long-tenured Spider-Man collaborator. Editor Nick Lowe shepherded the book, and the 'Arachnobatics' arc that issue #4 is part of was collected in the first trade paperback volume released October 8, 2024. The creative team's explicit goal was to establish a weekly coffee-shop ritual for Peter and Miles as a structural anchor, giving the series a community-focused slice-of-life texture uncommon in superhero team-up books.
Trivia · 8 facts
- Issue title: 'Arachnobatics, Chapter #4: The Pitch'; released June 26, 2024, with a cover date of August 2024.
- Creative team: writer Greg Weisman, penciller Humberto Ramos, inker Victor Olazaba, colorist Edgar Delgado, letterer VC Joe Caramagna, editor Nick Lowe.
- Issue #4 is the pivotal chapter in which both Spider-Men realize they are trapped in the Arcadium's wish-fulfillment simulation — Peter living a fantasy of marriage to Gwen Stacy (with Aunt May and Captain George Stacy present), and Miles dating Kamala Khan — and begin to break free.
- Shift (Jaime Morales), Miles Morales's clone-brother, plays the key role in shattering Miles's illusion by punching an android duplicate of Kamala Khan, exposing the simulation's true nature. Shift's first appearance was in Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2018) #25; issue #4 is a significant early appearance in this new title.
- The issue reveals Hammerhead as the financial backer of the Arcadium project — the sinister wish-fulfillment machine built by Arcade (the technology) and Mentallo (the psychic component, real name Marvin Flumm).
- The wider supporting cast driving the parallel detective subplot includes Detective Shari Sebbens and Sha Shan Nguyen, who converge on the Coffee Bean following reports of missing patrons, while the mystery of Dr. Seymour Krepps and a charred corpse connected to Raymond Warren (secretly the Jackal) continues to simmer in the background.
- The issue is part of the first ongoing series to co-star Peter Parker and Miles Morales, which ran 15 issues from March 2024 through May 2025.
- Collected in Spectacular Spider-Men TPB Vol. 1: Arachnobatics (October 8, 2024), alongside issues #1–5 of the series.
