The Shade #4
This "Times Past" chapter of James Robinson's The Shade miniseries steps back into the world of 1944 with a cover by Tony Harris that radiates pulp-era energy. Front and center, a silver-haired woman in a striking red-and-black costume lunges forward with a sword, her cat-eye glasses giving her an air of cool menace — while behind her, portrait-style insets introduce the Shade himself alongside a figure labeled "Caldecott," all framed by period newspaper clippings and shadowy tentacles hinting at something called "Stygian Darkness." It's a wonderfully atmospheric package, with the "Dramatic Novelette" banner nodding to the wartime pulp aesthetic that Darwyn Cooke and J-Bone bring to life inside.
