The New Warriors #66

Speedball bounces back in a big way in New Warriors #66 (December 1995), and the cover by Patrick Zircher and Andrew Pepoy makes the most of it — the kinetic hero tumbles through a storm of colorful energy spheres while an eclectic array of adversaries closes in around him, including a gun-toting figure in a trench coat and what appears to be a robotic menace with oversized yellow eyes. The banner cheekily asks "Wouldja Believe — The Speedball Revenge Squad?!" while a corner spot promises "The Return of Niels… The Bouncing Cat!," complete with a portrait of a very self-possessed tabby. Writer Evan Skolnick and artist Patrick Zircher deliver a story rooted in Springdale, Speedball's old stomping ground, wrapped in one of the more delightfully chaotic covers the series had to offer.
