The Marvels #5

A vivid burst of magenta and teal energy dominates the center of Alex Ross's painted cover, radiating outward as an impressive assemblage of Marvel heroes — Captain America, Storm, Black Panther, Silver Surfer, Black Cat, and others — react with alarm from the surrounding darkness. The stark contrast of the monochromatic figures against that blazing central form gives the whole image an almost cinematic unease. Kurt Busiek, Yildiray Cinar, and Richard Isanove continue their ambitious ensemble saga here in issue five, and the cover alone makes a compelling case for whatever convergence is unfolding.
