“A King of Ruins”

All bedlam has broken loose in the Great Refuge, and this August 1976 issue makes that gloriously clear: Black Bolt tears through the chaos at the center of the cover, with Medusa's fiery red hair lashing out like a weapon beside him, while a massive leonine figure looms at the left and two struggling combatants — one in green — crash through crumbling architecture at the right. Cover pencils by Rich Buckler and inks by Frank Giacoia give the scene a raw, kinetic energy that perfectly suits a story called "A King of Ruins," with the bold cover tagline "Black Bolt Goes Wild!" promising something genuinely out of the ordinary for Attilan's stoic monarch. A terrific slice of late Bronze Age Marvel for any fan of the Royal Family.
