The Dynamite series grew out of an expanded licensing agreement between Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, under which Dynamite acquired rights to five classic Hanna-Barbera and WBD properties simultaneously, with The Herculoids — already proven IP thanks to Dynamite's successful Space Ghost series — selected as the first to be announced with a confirmed creator. Writer Tom Sniegoski, a three-decade comics veteran whose credits include Vampirella, Hellboy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Bone, was attached from the start; artist Craig Rousseau, known for Batman Beyond and Gotham Adventures, joined before the series was formally solicited in Diamond's December 2024 Previews catalog for a February 2025 launch. The series maintained the same creative team across all nine issues through #9's October 22, 2025 release date.
