Few covers from 1969 pack quite this much emotional wallop: the Scarlet Speedster reels from a slap delivered by an angry red-haired woman in green who screams "Murderer!! You made me a widow — my child an orphan!", while a young child clings nearby and an outraged crowd closes in on all sides. The story title, "The Day The Flash Failed!", promises a deeply personal crisis for the hero rather than a straightforward super-villain slugfest. Cover art by Ross Andru and Murphy Anderson, inked by Anderson and Mike Esposito, frames the scene with vivid Silver Age energy that makes this Robert Kanigher–written issue genuinely hard to put down unread.
