Little Chief hears the story of Running Bear's ritual of fasting. Running Bear sees a vision of a flaming horse and hears the wings of a great bird. The two beasts battle and the horse wins. After Little Chief is accepted as a warrior, he undergoes his own ritual and sees a great white-feathered eagle descend on him and carry him off. Soon after, white soldiers visit his tribe and recognise Little Chief as a white man due to his blue eyes. He is revealed as Daniel Kidd, born 18 August 1805. The white men insist Daniel go with them.
