The Defenders #141

This March 1985 issue of The New Defenders features a cover by Mike Mignola (pencils) and Kevin Nowlan (inks) that wastes no time setting a vivid, unsettling tone — a massive, multi-eyed green tentacled creature dominates the foreground, its slobbering maw and writhing limbs engulfing the scene as a blonde female Defender, a blue furred beast-like figure, and a snarling orange demon-esque teammate scramble to break free. The story title "All Flesh is Grass!" hints at something deeply strange lurking beneath the surface of this team's world. With Peter B. Gillis writing and Don Perlin on interior art, this is Marvel's scrappiest super-team doing what they do best — facing the thoroughly weird with grim determination.
