There, amid plans for shelter and sustenance, Rod is stunned to find Karin has secretly joined them, defying Mephis' orders. Written, drawn, and inked by Paul Jepsen, this 1938 adventure unfolds with a blend of daring flight and tense suspense, all framed by Sheldon Mayer’s striking cover art.

The Unicor, Taro, tries to save his ship and his passenger Rod Rian. They use wing apparatus to fly, but the Mephisians fire a "gravity-resisting ray gun" at them to bring them down. The Mephisians prepare to place Rod in front of a firing squad, but Mephis shows up with what he thinks is a better plan. He sends Rod and all the captured Unicor warriors to the Land of the Living Dead. Once there, Rod discovers Karin has snuck aboard the ship, in defiance of Mephis' plans that she should remain with him. Rod and the Unicors make plans to provide for food and shelter.
