Cheese
Cheese is one half of Evan Dorkin's anarchic comedy duo Milk and Cheese, self-described 'Dairy Products Gone Bad.' A carton of cheese alongside his partner Milk, he channels explosive rage and darkly absurdist humor into violent tirades against the mundane irritations of modern life.
Few characters in indie comics carry quite the cult cachet of Cheese, who burst onto the scene in 1989 via Cerebus Bi-Weekly #20 β a Copper Age arrival from Slave Labor that would go on to haunt the margins of alternative comics for over three decades. Most at home in Milk and Cheese: Dairy Products Gone Bad and fellow Slave Labor titles like Dork and Slave Labor Stories, Cheese keeps gloriously unhinged company alongside Milk, Marv, Frank Einstein, Madman, and Martha Washington. With 27 catalog appearances spanning all the way to 2021, this dairy-based provocateur is a genuine touchstone of underground indie publishing β the kind of character that rewards the curious collector willing to dig into the wilder corners of the Slave Labor universe.
