The Brave and the Bold #59

The Brave and the Bold teams Batman and Green Lantern against the eerily composed Time Commander, whose hourglass glows at the center of this striking 1965 Gil Kane cover as the villain gleefully announces he's sending the two heroes in opposite directions through time. Batman is shown fading toward the past while Green Lantern is swept toward the future, their figures split dramatically by a burst of temporal energy. Bob Haney's script and Ramona Fradon's interior art promise that "The Tick-Tock Traps of the Time Commander" is exactly the kind of high-concept, clock-is-ticking adventure that made DC's team-up titles such a treat in the mid-1960s.
