The Brave and the Bold #3

Dec 1955 · DC · 0.10 USD
“The Invisible Wall!”

In "The Invisible Wall!", young Squire Brian finds himself pushed to the edge by his harsh trainer, Sir Grot, until a shocking challenge from the mysterious Cedric the Black forces him into action. When Cedric hurls his lance at the castle door in defiance, Brian’s chance to prove himself comes not in the arena, but in the wilds of the Forest Perilous—where he becomes the Silent Knight. With courage and quick thinking, he races to save Lady Celia from Cedric’s thugs, dodging danger and plunging through a stream to stop the villain in his tracks. Written by Robert Kanigher and illustrated with bold energy by Irv Novick—both inks and pencils—this 1955 adventure blends medieval drama with a hero’s quiet rise, all captured in a striking cover by Novick.

Squire Brian is repeatedly humiliated by his trainer, gruff Sir Grot. When Cedric the Black hurls his black lance into the castle door, an insult, Sir Grot rides out to fight him, but is slammed. Brian "accidentally" tumbles in the moat, rescues Sir Grot, and dashes to the Forest Perilous to become the Silent Knight. Just in time, for Lady Celia is attached by Cedric's thugs. SK dodges the black lance and tumbles through a stream to ram Cedric flat and rescue Celia.
