As the Grim Knight holds Commissioner Gordon prisoner, he recounts his origin on an alternate Earth, where as a boy he saw Joe Chill murder his parents, but when Chill drops the murder weapon, young Bruce picks it up and shoots him in cold blood, leading to this Bruce's violent no-nonsense approach to dealing with crime.
