When a desperate cry echoes from the depths of the Backstage, the Backstagers follow it into a hidden passage that leads them to the Backstage of Penitent Angels. There, they meet the Techies—Genevieve, Amber, Adrian, Juniper, and Vivian Lee—and soon encounter Polaroid, a mysterious presence that seems to exist between worlds.

In "null," the mysterious Polaroid unleashes a surreal transformation that turns most of the Backstagers and Techies into the very tools and objects they use backstage—only Jory, captivated by the Backstage’s deeper mysteries, and Sasha, drawn to Polaroid’s enigmatic presence, remain unchanged. When Polaroid reveals he’s a survivor of a forgotten party lost in the Backstage since 1987, Jory must navigate the shifting, dreamlike reality to rescue his friends before the two months they’ve vanished catch up to them.

In the eerie heart of a forgotten theater, the Backstagers—Hunter, Jory, Beckett, Sasha, and Aziz—face their greatest test yet, cut off from the stage and each other after a mysterious two-month disappearance. When Jory uncovers a chilling link between their vanished faculty advisor, Mr. Rample, and the lost crew of 1987, the truth begins to unravel: Polaroid’s grip on the Backstage magic is tightening. With one of the McQueen twins gone and the theater itself whispering secrets, the boys must follow Rample on a desperate, final mission to bring Kevin back—before the Backstage is lost forever.

In "null," Jory and Hunter race to the Arch-Theater to confront the mysterious Kevin, as Blake’s haunting duet on the school stage summons him back. With Tim and Jamie rallying stage crews from across the globe, the truth behind the ghostly Polaroid is revealed—Mr. Rample exposes the spectral figure as a remnant of a long-buried past, and with that, the magic seeping into the world begins to recede. The McQueen twins return to their usual antics, the Backstagers settle back into their routine, and the stage is set for another night of performance.
