Thanos kneels in somber contemplation beside a massive stone monument, his blue-and-gold armor conveying restrained but formidable power — a striking image penciled by Jim Starlin and inked by Al Milgrom that sets a surprisingly reflective tone for the Mad Titan. This issue kicks off "Samaritan," a six-part story written by Keith Giffen with interior art by Ron Lim, promising an extended arc with plenty of room to breathe. If you've ever wanted to see Thanos in a more measured, brooding light, this 2004 series looks like a fine place to start.
