Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #38

This July 1991 Mirage issue takes the Turtles in a decidedly offbeat direction with "Spaced Out," and the cover by Rich Hedden and Tom McWeeney sets the tone perfectly — a wild, cartoonish pile-up featuring a panicked green turtle tangled with a large, spotted blue alien creature, both tumbling in front of an eerie moonlit backdrop with ominous shadowy figures looming behind them. The frantic, rubbery energy of the artwork feels genuinely fun, a nice departure from the grittier Mirage aesthetic. Hedden and McWeeney handle the full creative package here, and the cover's comedic chaos makes this one hard to pass up.
