Tarzan #257

DC's Tarzan of the Apes #257 (January 1977) puts the Jungle Lord in double jeopardy — the cover by Ernie Chua and Alfredo Alcala depicts a massive, taloned Devil Bird clutching Tarzan mid-air while a snarling lion prowls the branches below, knife in hand and muscles straining as he fights for his life on two fronts. The cover copy poses the urgent question: can Tarzan survive the deadly menace of "Nightmare"? With Joe Kubert writing and illustrating the interior and colors by Tatjana Wood, this is a fine example of the creative team firing on all cylinders during DC's run with Edgar Rice Burroughs' immortal hero.
