In "null," the fish-people of a dying ocean, ravaged by the war between Unis and Kapar, construct a spaceship to flee to a new aquatic world and enlist Tangor to pilot a test flight. After launch, their vessel is ambushed by Kapar airships, sustaining critical damage as Tangor struggles to evade pursuit. Forced off course, he crash-lands on an unknown planet—where, against all odds, he walks away from the wreckage.
