It features the Man of Steel facing off against a team of Kryptonian villains led by General Zod, a classic Silver Age-style adventure aimed at British readers. The volume compiles the complete narrative from issues of the short-lived series, offering a self-contained tale from the early '80s DC UK imprint.
In "Superman Meets the Zod Squad!", Superman and Supergirl face a new threat when the ancient Kryptonian enemies, the Vrangs, track them from the ruins of Argo City to Earth. With the Phantom Zone prisoners breaking free using a shard of jewel kryptonite, an uneasy alliance forms between Superman and his long-time foes to confront the alien invaders. Written by Cary Bates and illustrated by Alex Saviuk, with inks by Vince Colletta, the story unfolds with tense action and classic sci-fi stakes. The cover, by Alan Craddock, captures the moment of confrontation with bold, dynamic flair.

A group of Vrangs, an alien race that were ancient enemies of Krypton, happen upon a dead city floating in space. They discover that it is Argo City, which originated from the planet Krypton, and that two Kryptonians (Superman and Supergirl) survive on Earth. The Vrangs head to Earth, determined to kill the last of their people's enemies. The Phantom Zone prisoners witness these events and locate a piece of jewel kryptonite which enables four to escape from the Zone. Superman and the prisoners form a temporary truce so that they can battle the Vrangs together.
