This August 1960 issue kicks off an "Imaginary Series" with the tantalizing premise of "Mr. and Mrs. Clark (Superman) Kent!" — and the cover delivers its charm immediately. Lois stands in a cozy domestic scene, apron on and dinner plate in hand, thinking aloud about how their neighbors would be astonished to know her husband Clark is slipping away through a secret tunnel as Superman — while the Man of Steel himself dives headfirst through a trapdoor in the living room floor, full cape and costume on full display. Cover artists Curt Swan and Stan Kaye bring a wonderfully deadpan warmth to the scene, with a framed wedding portrait on the wall completing this peek at the life Lois and Clark might share if things were just a little different.
