“The Star Reporter of Metropolis!”

This July 1960 issue of Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane serves up a wonderfully dramatic cover by penciler Curt Swan and inker Stan Kaye: Lois is swept up in a passionate kiss with a silver-haired mystery hero in a red-and-yellow costume, declaring him the first man in the universe to make her forget Superman — while a visibly uneasy Superman watches from the lower corner, clearly not thrilled with what he's seeing. The featured story, "Lois Lane Weds Astounding Man!," promises romantic intrigue with a sharp twist, as a thought bubble warns that poor Lois has no idea what shocking secret her super-boyfriend is hiding. It's a perfectly packaged piece of Silver Age soap opera that shows exactly why this series had such devoted fans.
