In a twisted twist of fate, Batman finds himself hypnotized into becoming the warden of a high-security prison designed to hold alien and super-powered criminals—only to be falsely accused of imprisoning Superman and a roster of other heroes, including Electric Man, The Freezer, Balloon Man, and The Flame. With Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen watching from the sidelines and Dr. Marlin’s presence hinting at deeper conspiracies, the line between captor and captive begins to blur.

Lois Lane forms a bond with a chimpanzee named Toto just before he's sent into orbit aboard a satellite. When a collision involving uranium and kryptonite alters the satellite, Toto grows to colossal size and is exposed to deadly kryptonite rays—prompting Lois to rename him Titano. Hunted by the military intent on destroying him, Lois devises a plan to shield Titano from the kryptonite's influence, allowing Superman to send him safely into the past.
