Superman #680
In "The Coming of Atlas Part 4: Man of Yore, Dog of Tomorrow," Superman awakens to find Krypto still fighting the colossal Atlas, even as a mysterious figure orders a satellite beam to strike the dog—only for the attack to fail. With Krypto proving unexpectedly resilient, Superman races to regain his strength, enlisting Zachary Zatara to cast a spell that briefly amplifies his solar power. Returning just in time, Superman delivers the final blow, burying Atlas beneath the earth and publicly honoring Krypto as the true hero. Written by James Robinson and illustrated by Renato Guedes, with inks by Jose Wilson Magalhaes, colors by Hi-Fi, and letters by John J. Hill, the issue's striking cover by Alex Ross captures the moment of Krypto’s defiant stand.

Superman awakens after being knocked out in his fight with Atlas, and sees Krypto battling Atlas. The mysterious man watching is ordered to blast Krypto with the ray from the satellite that downed Supergirl. But it's ineffective against Krypto. Even hit with more powerful blasts, Krypto still continues his attack against Atlas. Atlas proclaims Krypto as "magical", which causes Superman to limp away from the battle, promising Krypto he'll be back. Superman finds Zachary Zatara in Metropolis, and gets him to construct a brief spell that will give Superman extra sun power for up to a minute. Back at the fight, Krypto is finally tiring, but Superman arrives and pounds Atlas beneath the ground, defeating him. In front of all Metropolis, Superman proclaims Krypto as the hero in this battle.
