Superman #679
In "The Coming of Atlas Part 3: All That's Red and Blue Falls Down," Superman battles the seemingly unstoppable Atlas across the streets of Metropolis, his strength inexplicably failing him. As Lois and Jimmy watch in alarm, Lana Lang struggles to intervene from LexCorp—her hands tied by contract—while a mysterious figure observes from above, captured in a photograph by Jimmy. When Supergirl arrives to help, she’s struck by a mysterious energy beam from a satellite, setting off a chain of events that will test the limits of hope and resolve. Written by James Robinson and illustrated by Renato Guedes, with inks by Jose Wilson Magalhaes, colors by Hi-Fi, and letters by John J. Hill, this 2008 issue features a cover by Alex Ross, whose striking artwork captures the moment of tension and dread.

Superman and Atlas are fighting on the streets of Metropolis, with Lois and Jimmy watching. Superman is losing, and not sure why he is so weak. Lana Lang is monitoring the fight from LexCorp headquarters, and tries to activate Team Luthor to help Superman, but finds that aiding Superman violates the terms of her contract, and is fired. Jimmy spots a mysterious man watching from above at the edge of a building, and photographs him. Supergirl hears the fight, and arrives to help out, only to be blasted with a ray from a satellite, controlled by the mysterious man. Superman tells Supergirl to find out more about the ray, while he continues the battle with Atlas. Atlas knocks him unconscious, but then Krypto arrives.
