Superman #650
Superman #650 kicks off the "Up, Up, and Away!" storyline with a cover that perfectly captures the tension of a double identity: Clark Kent, in his civilian shirt and glasses, stands casually in the foreground checking a device, while a massive painted mural of Superman launching skyward looms dramatically behind him. The juxtaposition, rendered with clean, confident lines by Terry Dodson and Rachel Dodson, says everything and nothing at once. With Kurt Busiek and Geoff Johns co-writing and Pete Woods on art, this "One Year Later" chapter promises a fresh and compelling chapter for the Man of Steel.

Luthor is cleared of all charges, but the people have lost respect for him, and he resents it, holding up a crystal (the sunstone). Dr. Abernathy experiments with Kryptonite on animals: one breaks away and causes an explosion that turns him into a Kryptonite Man. Clark sets off a signal watch that summons Supergirl, who defeats the Kryptonite Man. Luthor's goons take Clark to Luthor, who tells him "No more stories", and threatens Lois. Clark tells him "You're finished", as Luthor punches him out and kicks him down, leaving a bloodied Clark behind, who has obviously lost his powers.
