“Bizarroverse, Part I: Father of Boyzarro”

The "Bizarroverse" kicks off with a cover that perfectly sets its strange, melancholy tone — Bizarro looms large in a tattered Superman costume, speaking the words "Farewell to Bizarro World" as flames consume a barn-like structure behind him. Flanking him are Bizarro versions of Lois and young Jon, along with a Bizarro Krypto (complete with tiny glasses) and what appears to be a Bizarro Streaky perched atop him, the whole group rendered in Patrick Gleason's wonderfully expressive linework with moody colors by Alejandro Sánchez. Part One of what promises to be a wild interdimensional detour, this 2018 issue leans into the bittersweet weirdness of Bizarro's world with genuine heart.
