Superior Spider-Man #7 delivers the payoff to the central con of the entire third volume: Otto Octavius, having failed to reclaim Peter Parker's body, instead takes over the mind and form of Spider-Man's young sidekick Bailey Briggs, debuting the in-story identity of 'Superior Spider-Boy.' The issue also escalates Otto's mind-control gambit to a global scale, channeling Supernova's stellar energy as a broadcast amplifier for his consciousness — a plot twist that reframes every prior issue of the run as a slow-burn setup. The third volume of Superior Spider-Man was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 as part of the tenth-anniversary celebration of the original storyline, with Dan Slott — architect of the entire Superior saga — returning to write alongside Christos Gage, who had shepherded the second volume in 2018–2019. Mark Bagley, who had co-created a continuous run with Slott on the relaunched Spider-Man series immediately before this book, carried over as penciller, giving the volume a visual continuity with its direct predecessor. The series was structured to run exactly eight issues, replacing the prior Spider-Man ongoing, with the understanding that Otto's story would then continue in the manga spin-off Spider-Man: Octo-Girl.
