Supergirl #68

Supergirl #68 promises a charged collision as the cover — penciled by Leonard Kirk and inked by Robin Riggs — depicts Supergirl mid-kick, trading blows with a young woman in a gold-and-black costume amid a storm of crackling lightning. The tagline "The Power of Shazam! Strikes" makes clear this is no ordinary crossover skirmish, and the sheer kinetic energy crammed into the image sets up "Double Identities" as a story with plenty of friction between its two leads. Peter David's run on this series consistently found drama in unexpected matchups, and this 2002 issue looks like a fine example of that instinct at work.
