“The New Adventures of Supergirl The Girl of Steel”

This special #0 issue from DC's 2005 Supergirl series opens with a cover by Ian Churchill — and what a cover it is: the Girl of Steel lunges forward in her blue and red costume, hair wild and cape billowing behind her, battle-worn and fierce with a determined grin that suggests she's already been through something serious. Writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ian Churchill, inked here by Norm Rapmund, bring an unmistakable energy to this title that positions Supergirl as a force very much her own. A great entry point into "The New Adventures of Supergirl: The Girl of Steel.

Batman and Superman look on while Supergirl rescues Air Force One, as the Calculator also looks on. Supergirl zooms away, losing Superman, then notices the Calculator's satellite, and confronts Batman. She meets up with "Batgirl", fights Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, and proves invulnerable to synthetic kryptonite. Batgirl is revealed to be Clayface, and Supergirl defeats him. It turns out that Lex Luthor is behind the Calculator's monitoring of Supergirl and been testing her.
