Supergirl #1
This 2005 relaunch puts Supergirl front and center with real authority — cape billowing dramatically, she stands atop a rocky ruin with an intense, fierce expression that makes the tagline "There Can Be Only One" feel genuinely earned. At her feet lies a fallen blonde figure in white who bears a striking resemblance to Supergirl herself, lending the cover an air of mystery and tension that writer Jeph Loeb and cover artists Ian Churchill and Norm Rapmund render with bold, kinetic energy. It's a confident opening statement for a new series, and a compelling reason to pick up "Power Chapter One: JSA.

Supergirl reviews her origin, then meets up with Stargirl, who is watching the Justice Society of America battle Solomon Grundy. Power Girl shows up to help, and Supergirl intervenes to help her, dispatching Grundy. When they shake hands, Power Girl goes crazy and attacks Supergirl. Green Lantern intervenes in the fight, and isolates them. Apparently "allergic" to Supergirl, Power Girl meets her later, but refuses to be her friend for now. Desiring some peer support, Supergirl goes to seek Superboy at the Kent farm, but he confronts her instead.
