This issue presents "The Origin" of Captain Atom, a Collector's Special reprint of the original story. Military officials demonstrate Captain Atom's extraordinary powers, including his ability to withstand atomic radiation and achieve speeds exceeding 20,000 miles per hour, while he agrees to undertake a dangerous mission. When Captain Atom had previously been disintegrated in radioactive blast and later reintegrated, he uses his abilities to travel to Planet X and retrieve a space vaccine to recover a dying scientist at a medical center in New York. After successfully obtaining the vaccine and returning to Earth, Captain Atom delivers it in time to save the scientist's life.
