About this Issue

Issue #3 of Marvel's 2024 Star Wars: Mace Windu miniseries is the issue where the series' two antagonist threads — a Hutt-hired bounty hunter and a technophobic cult — fully converge on Windu and Azita Cruuz simultaneously, pushing the pre-Clone Wars adventure into its climactic gear. The issue delivers the first full active appearance of Muro and Diya as Dusk Weavers of the Had'le Path, an entirely new Force-adjacent cult invented for this series that enriches the canon of fringe ideological movements in the Star Wars galaxy. Wookieepedia's timeline analysis places the entire miniseries before Windu's seat on the Jedi High Council (no later than 48 BBY), making this one of the earliest canonical portrayals of Windu as a working Jedi Knight rather than the stone-faced Council veteran familiar from the films. Together with its three companion issues, this chapter was later collected in the trade paperback Star Wars: Mace Windu — The Twilight Run, ensuring the new characters and storylines it introduced have a stable place in the Modern Star Wars comics canon.

History

Writer Marc Bernardin and penciller Georges Jeanty — with inks by Dexter Vines and colors by Andrew Dalhouse — produced all four issues of this miniseries, giving it a consistent creative voice from first page to last. The series grew out of editorial interest in exploring Windu's 'younger years' before the Clone Wars, a period StarWars.com described as largely uncharted territory at the time of the book's launch. Issue #3, published April 17, 2024, was the penultimate chapter of the four-issue run; Bernardin himself visited his local comics shop on release day to sign copies, posting about the issue on social media, which speaks to the creative team's evident enthusiasm for the project. The main cover was by Mateus Manhanini, who handled regular covers for the entire run, while Dave Wachter and Giuseppe Camuncoli supplied variant covers for this issue.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Published April 17, 2024 by Marvel Comics; third of four issues in the miniseries.
  • Written by Marc Bernardin; pencils by Georges Jeanty; inks by Dexter Vines; colors by Andrew Dalhouse; main cover by Mateus Manhanini.
  • First full active appearance of Muro and Diya as Dusk Weavers of the Had'le Path — a newly created canon cult that seeks to eradicate technology from the galaxy — though both characters made their debut (as shadowy observers) in issue #2.
  • Features the full confrontation with Yaya Shram, a female Anzellan bounty hunter (same species as Babu Frik) hired on behalf of Jabba the Hutt's criminal empire; Shram's character first appeared in issue #2 but is a primary antagonist here.
  • Writer Marc Bernardin confirmed on social media that Yaya Shram is female and that he conceived of her as a grandmother figure.
  • The entire series is set prior to Windu's elevation to the Jedi High Council, which Wookieepedia's timeline cross-referencing with 'Star Wars: Master & Apprentice' and 'Star Wars: Timelines' places no later than approximately 48 BBY.
  • The story arc — including this issue's events — was collected in the trade paperback 'Star Wars: Mace Windu: The Twilight Run,' which also reprints the related short story from 'Star Wars: Revelations' #1 by the same creative team.
  • Variant covers for this issue were provided by Dave Wachter (depicting Yaya Shram) and Giuseppe Camuncoli (a 'Master & Apprentice' themed variant timed to the 25th anniversary of 'The Phantom Menace').
