History

The three-part Battle of Jakku maxi-series was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 and grew directly out of Marvel's decision to conclude its post-Empire Strikes Back Star Wars and Darth Vader ongoing series at issue #50 each in September 2024. Writer Alex Segura, already established in Star Wars canon through the young-adult novel Poe Dameron: Free Fall, was tapped to script all twelve issues across the three four-issue limited series, with Leonard Kirk handling interior art on Insurgency Rising, including issue #2; covers across the run were provided by Phil Noto, and Mark Paniccia edited the title. The series was positioned as the first comprehensive comic-canon account of the Galactic Civil War's final chapter — a story previously told only fragmentarily across Chuck Wendig's Aftermath trilogy, the mobile game Star Wars: Uprising, and the Shattered Empire miniseries.
