History

The series grew directly out of a deliberate editorial pivot at Marvel: the flagship Star Wars and Darth Vader titles concluded their shared post-Empire Strikes Back continuity with landmark fiftieth issues, clearing the decks for an entirely new post-Return of the Jedi publishing era. Editor Mark Paniccia and writer Alex Segura — previously known for the prose novel Star Wars: Poe Dameron – Free Fall and work on Edge of Spider-Verse — designed Insurgency Rising as the first of three interlocking four-issue miniseries, collectively called The Battle of Jakku, that would jointly narrate the never-before-told final battle of the Galactic Civil War. Interior art on issue #3 was shared between penciller-inkers Leonard Kirk and Jethro Morales, with Rachelle Rosenberg providing color throughout the series, and Phil Noto delivering all main covers across the run.
