“Star Search!”

Marvel's post-film Star Wars series was already venturing boldly into new territory by 1978, and issue #11 makes that promise explicit with its cover banner: "Beyond the Movie! Beyond the Galaxy!" Gil Kane and Tony DeZuniga deliver a striking scene showing Luke Skywalker firing his blaster point-blank at a massive, fanged red sea creature — with the speech bubbles making clear the blaster isn't slowing the beast down and the ship is sinking fast. R2-D2 and C-3PO scramble in the foreground, caught up in the chaos, while the cover teases "The Fate of Luke Skywalker!" — a question that gives this chapter of "Star Search!" some real urgency.
