Spooky #17

Harvey Comics' "tuff little ghost" is in fine form on this 1958 cover, where Spooky — bowler hat tumbling off his head — comes swooping out of a puff of smoke to startle a determined young Native American child who's waving a red blanket over a campfire. The scene suggests the smoke signal may have conjured more than anyone bargained for, giving the whole cover a wonderfully mischievous energy. At just a dime, Spooky #17 is a cheerful slice of Harvey's mid-century humor line, with the story "Haunting for a House" waiting inside.
