The Fantastic Four learn from vagabond extraterrestrials that Galactus is coming to consume the Earth. They try to hide the planet from Galactus' herald, the Silver Surfer, but fail and Galactus arrives. However, Reed tricks Galactus into altering Earth's magnetosphere so that he can no longer derive nourishment from the planet. Galactus threatens to destroy Earth out of spite but the Surfer refuses to let him; Galactus exiles the Surfer to Earth as punishment and departs.
