Spider-Man 2099 Classic #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis collection kicks off the modern reprint series of the original 1990s Spider-Man 2099 saga, gathering the first story arc of Miguel O'Hara's adventures in a dystopian corporate-run future. It introduces key players from that era, including the scheming Tyler Stone, the heroic Kasey Nash, and the villainous Venture, as Miguel struggles to balance his new spider-powers with his life as a geneticist in Neo York. The volume sets the stage for the larger 2099 universe, with cameos from the likes of the Punisher and Doctor Doom woven into the fabric of this cyberpunk take on the Marvel mythos.
In "Nothing Ventured...", Miguel O'Hara grapples with the sudden onset of his powers as he flees the high-tech confines of Alchemax. When Tyler Stone dispatches the relentless tracker Venture to uncover the lab intruder, Miguel takes a bold step—disguising himself as Spider-Man to throw off the hunt.
In "The Specialist," Gabriel’s life unravels when his girlfriend Kasey is taken by Alchemax for experiments. After she escapes, Gabriel becomes The Specialist, hunting those who wronged her—while Miguel, caught in the crossfire, pursues the man who now wears the mask.
In "Downtown," Miguel O'Hara staggers through the ruined heart of New York City, wounded and near collapse, before stumbling into a makeshift medical center run by a devotee of the mythic Thor. As he recovers, the Public Eye closes in—only for The Vulture’s sudden intervention to buy him just enough time to survive.
In "Home Again, Home Again," Miguel O'Hara returns to uptown disguised as a Public Eye, hoping to slip home unnoticed—only to stumble into a squad of his own kind, all hunting a group of figures dressed as Spider-Man. The story unfolds with tense intrigue, as Miguel’s return takes a sharp turn into a mystery he didn’t expect.
In "Mother's Day," Miguel, Dana, and Gabriel pay a visit to Mrs. O'Hara, who stages a dramatic fake death just to see Miguel's reaction. Flashbacks reveal a troubled past: Miguel was sent to an Alchemax training school by his father, a man he now resents deeply—especially since he's no longer alive.
