Spawn #99

Greg Capullo and Danny Miki deliver a stunning cover for Spawn #99 — the hellspawn looms backlit by a roiling explosion of sulfurous yellow flame, his massive red cape spread like dark wings as chains dangle from his clawed hands. Beneath him, enormous stone or rocky figures are strewn across the rubble-strewn foreground, dwarfed by Spawn's commanding, silhouetted presence. With "The Edge of Darkness" as the story's title, this 2000 Image Comics milestone feels like exactly the right moment to be reading one of the medium's most visually striking ongoing series.
